Anna Roussos Workshop Athens Greece 2017 // backstage

Sally Mann once said that photographs open doors into the past but they also allow a look into the future … and although my line of work belongs to a completely different genre, these words somehow along my path as a wedding photographer resound and resonate. Perhaps that was why when I decided to hold my two-day workshop in Athens a week ago (I’m already missing its amazing energy) I wished to go for something out of the box.

Out of the box means leaving the grid, and to me this translated as teaming up with the best and providing my participants a genuine experience both in learning and hands-on shooting. Who better to do this with me than the incredible Panagiotis Kouloukakos and Nicole Kapakian with the team of The12Events! Details ranging from refined and delicate, to bold, an explosion of colors and feelings had us all taken where fine art meets high fashion and showstopping elements.

It’s so essential to nestle in a cozy, homey niche to get one’s creativity all centered and having this beautiful private villa in Sounio all to ourselves, with a private beach and garden allowed us all to gather our thoughts in peace and focus on our craft. – Waking up to the scents of delicious breakfast cooking is definitely one of my favorite parts of the day, but not the only one, so when our chef prepared each soul food dish so attentively we couldn’t put our forks down (yes, wedding photographers are huge foodies).
Our first day was fully dedicated to theory, speaking all about natural light, its use, fit and variations, while moving onto effective branding, marketing, and retouching tips. Panagiotis elaborated on the collaboration between photographers and planner agencies which gave us all great food for thought, a happy boost of confidence and incredible insight on how a truly professional planner acts upon reaching out.
Our two styled shoots the next day brought to life exactly what our out-of-the-box pining hearts sought after a Hippie Boheme editorial on the beach filled with splashes of magentas, artful bohemia, and roamer tribal vibes, and a super dreamy Secret Garden edit jam-packed with greenery and a heavenly swathe of details, both with the beautiful creatures by VN Model Agency.
Returning home, this photographer’s heart couldn’t help but feeling so deeply appreciative for all the amazingly talented creatives who participated, wishing they’ve taken in their suitcases as many extraordinary images as they themselves are. It was so fulfilling to meet you and be able to share visuals, not only from the lens but from the heart!
I would like to thank you all and each one in person, but please allow me a few words for everyone who has been by my side in making the magic happen:
Sandy Protopsalti from Sandy and Odysseas photography you’ve been an angel assistant and manager for the whole two days, I wouldn’t have done this without you, my friend.
Marianna from Bright White, having you as our invitation set designer made our dreams a lot prettier and our smiles a lot wider!
Alexander from Pavlov’s Lab I am still dreaming of your glorious cake for our styled shoot and marble cookies for our attendants!
Bill Kouroupis my dear friend and backstage photographer thank you is too small a word, for your ace photos!
Chris and Panos and the team a wholehearted thank you for our ah-mazing backstage video.
Errieta, our stylist for clothes, you dressed our models to impress, thank you!
Frantzeska, our wonderful makeup artist and hair stylist your work had us fashed, many blessings!
White Lilac and Zazoo for gorgeous rental items.
If there is one last word to sign off this post my guess is it has to be the first: photographs open doors into the past but they also allow a look into the future … and there is no better future than the one we make when we invest in learning. I for one learned from you all!
